About Us & Student Health Services
Mission Statement
The Office of Student Health Insurance (SHI) contributes to the establishment of personal development and is dedicated to the Catholic and Jesuit tradition of care for self and others.
Student Health Insurance fulfills this mission by arranging for most full-time students to have adequate coverage. Therefore, they can afford to obtain the care necessary to maintain proper health, thus minimizing disruptions to their education. The requirement for students to maintain health insurance coverage also reduces real or perceived threats to the health of the University community at large.
Responsibilities
Student Health Insurance responsibilities include:
- Negotiation of the student health plans with insurance agents;
- Administration of the enrollment of student health insurance plans and overall Plan management; and,
- Advocate for student claim concerns with the insurance company. If students are not satisfied that they have received the benefits to which they are entitled an appeal can be filed with the insurance company. Students may file an appeal independent of SHI, but if you would like advice, we are available to help. Information about filing an appeal is in the Certificate of Coverage.
Organization
Student Health Insurance reports to the Division of Human Resources under the Office of Faculty and Staff Benefits and works in close collaboration with Student Health Services. Student Health Insurance, serves students across all University campuses, e.g., Main, Medical, Law, and School of Continuing Studies, as do many other Student Health Service Offices.
